How to make sweet Christmas candles

Prepare the shortcrust pastry, wrap it in cling film (1) and place in the refrigerator for about an hour. After the necessary time, roll out the pastry with a rolling pin (2) and cut out rectangles with a sharp knife (3).

Roll them around tubular moulds (4) and shape your candles. Arrange them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper (5) and bake at 180 ° C for about 20 minutes. Meanwhile, prepare the custard and let it cool (6).

Put the sugar and water in a pan (7) and mix until the caramel is obtained, which should be golden (8). Form the flames with a teaspoon on parchment paper, placing the toothpicks immediately on top and let it solidify (9).

Melt the white chocolate in a bowl. As soon as the candles are ready, let them cool, then roll them in white chocolate and chopped hazelnuts (10). Fill them with the custard and decorate with the caramel flames (11). Your sweet Christmas candles are ready to be brought to the table (12).

You can also fill the sweet Christmas candles with a cold cream made with ricotta and hazelnut cream and decorate them with chopped almonds, pistachios or walnuts, or with coloured sprinkles.

You can keep the sweet Christmas candles in the refrigerator for 1 day tightly closed in an airtight container.
