Orange Poke Cake. Easy Family food recipe. “Poke cake” in English means “Hole cake”: this cake born in the United States many decades ago, in fact, has the characteristic of having a perforated surface, in which to penetrate the most varied fillings, from creams to melted chocolate, from caramel to jellies or syrups. The recipe that we will see together, the Orange Poke Cake, is a version that includes a delicious orange syrup as a filling that we will prepare on the spot.
We will pour the orange syrup once the cake is out of the oven after we have pierced the surface with a wooden stick like those for skewers. In this way we will fill a dough that will be nice and soft and that we will have flavoured with the grated rind of two oranges… in short, it will be a triumph of citrus flavours and aromas!
We can decorate our Orange Poke Cake, once baked and cooled, with icing sugar or with a shower of candied orange peel… a delight for the palate and the eyes, excellent to be enjoyed at breakfast with a nice freshly squeezed juice or snack. FOR THE DOUGH
150 grams of sugar
100 gr of sunflower oil
100 ml of milk
200 grams of flour 00
1/2 sachet (8 g) of baking powder
the grated peel of two oranges

Preparation of orange poke cake
In a bowl, break the eggs and mix with the sugar using the electric whisk.
Add the sunflower oil, milk, flour, baking powder and mix well with an electric whisk.
Now add the grated peel of the oranges and mix again until everything is mixed well.
Pour the mixture into a 22 cm diameter mould with the bottom covered with parchment paper and greased. We bake and cook in a preheated oven at 180 ° C for about 40 minutes, or in a static oven at 190 ° C for the same time.
When it is not long before our cake is baked, squeeze and pour the juice of an orange into a saucepan. We add the sugar and stir constantly waiting for it to boil. Then we turn off and let the syrup obtained cool.
We take out our orange poke cake, let it cool slightly and then with a wooden stick we drill many holes on its surface. Pour the orange syrup over it and let it absorb before serving.
